Eddy Gordo (エディ・ゴルド Edi Gorudo) is a playable capoeira fighter within the Tekken series of fighting games. He made his debut in Tekken 3 and returned for all subsequent installments. He learned Caopeira from his master.

Tekken 3

Eddy was born into one of the richest families in Brazil. Ever since he was a small boy, he knew he would one day take over the family business. He was well-liked in his home town because he was a hard worker who treated others as his equals.

One day, when he was 19, Eddy came home from school to find his father shot and dying. He recalled that his father had been unusually nervous and fearful in recent weeks.

Eddy's father was working to destroy a drug business in Brazil at the time. His untimely death occurred just when he had obtained enough evidence to put the kingpins away for good. In his last breaths, Eddy's father told him, "Now is not the right time to fight. Falsely admit to the crime and hide in prison. Only there will you be safe". Eddy went along with his father's last wish and the model student went from a life of luxury to incarceration as a murderer.

Prison life was hell and not a day went by that Eddy didn't vow to get even with his father's killers. One day during a prison riot, he watched an old man with great power fight using a technique he called Capoeira. For eight years, Eddy practiced until he became a master and could be considered a lethal weapon.

Upon his release from prison, Eddy heard about the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 and the Mishima Zaibatsu. He decided to enter the tournament, believing he could persuade the MFE to help him seek his long-awaited revenge.

Ending Description, "Fixer": A limo rolls up by a mansion. 23:00, Eddy looks out the window anxiously. An hour later, Eddy breaks into a druglord's mansion and violently attacks him. The druglord points to a table with photographs of Kazuya on it.

Tekken 4

Although Eddy Gordo was a playable character in Tekken 4, he wasn't an actual participant in the tournament. It was implied that Eddy has disappeared during the fourth tournament to seek vengeance against the person responsible for the death of his father (later turned out to be Kazuya Mishima). His student (and also the granddaughter of his master), Christie Monteiro, entered The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 to find Eddy, as this was the only clue that can lead her to him.

Ending Description: Christie Monteiro has defeated Heihachi Mishima and won the tournament. The audience is cheering for her, and people begin walking to her, taking photos of her and complimenting her about her victory. One man starts to interview her about her victory, and Christie is very nonchalant throughout this. A man in a suit walks up to her, holding a golden trophy that is shaped like Heihachi's head. Christie looks through the crowd and sees Eddy, who has a sling on one of his arms. Christie starts to run up to him while yelling, "Eddy!", twice. An echo of her saying this is heard after the second time she says it, and Christie runs up to him and hugs him. Eddy hugs her with his other arm (the arm that doesn't have a sling around it). Christie says, "Eddy...", and then she closes her eyes and smiles.

Note: This ending is same as Christie's.

Tekken 5

Eddy's master was about to be freed from prison after a long incarceration. Eddy went to the prison to meet his master but instead found a frail old man that was only a shadow of the strong Capoeira master he once knew.

Upon taking his master to a hospital, Eddy was told his master had an incurable illness and had less than six months to live. However, it may be possible to discover a cure if they had access to the technology and resources of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

Several days later, Eddy decides to enter the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 with Christie.

Ending Description: Christie and Eddy are sitting outside of an operating room. The light on top of the door (which says 'Operating') goes off. The scene changes. Eddy and Christie are outside training. Eddy's Master arrives, and suddenly interrupts the session, leaving Eddy to watch his master train with his granddaughter.

Note: This ending is same as Christie's.

Tekken 6

At the conclusion of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, Eddy spoke alone with Jin Kazama. Jin offered to lend him his money and resources to save his master's life. If Eddy joined the Tekken Force, he promised to find a cure for Eddy's master's illness.

Eddy joins the Tekken Force, and he is involved with a number of military operations just as The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6 approaches.

Ending Description: Christie is shown standing at a grave with a coffin that hasn't been buried yet. Her grandfather has died. Christie places both hands together and weeps for her fallen grandpa. Suddenly, Eddy Gordo arrives and stands next to her. Christie slaps him in the face telling him that he was too late, but then gives up and places her hands and head onto his chest as she cries. Eddy clenches his fist and throws a pin badge to the ground, breaking it slightly. Jin Kazama's branding/tattoo is shown on the triangular shaped badge, implying he decided to quit the Tekken Force after realizing it was all for nothing.

Note: This ending is the same as Christie's.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Eddy Gordo's Arcade Ending

Ending Description: The screen first shows an orphanage that was supposedly built by Eddy. He is seen inside the orphanage teaching the children Capoeira. Later Christie is seen getting off a train and later heads off. Eddy leaves the children and tells them that he has things to do. A child asks Eddy if he is out for the man that killed his father. Eddy just tells the child to resume the training and that he will be back for them. Christie later arrives and asks the children of Eddy's whereabouts only to find out that he has already left. She later tries to chase him after giving the children the same advice Eddy had given them. At this point, the ending continues to Christie's ending.

Character Relationships

Eddy is a tricky character that has more technicality than he lets on. While he appears to be "beginner-friendly", Eddy has to be played in a very unpredictable way. With fast strikes, and two main stances that start his aggressive mix-up capabilities, Eddy can become a very formidable opponent if he is not figured out. Eddy is a easy to pick up, hard to master fighter, with an emphasis on how creative the player can be on offense.

Fighting style

Eddy fights using Capoeira, the Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, sports, and music.

  • Eddy is considered a master; the default color of his cords (a sign of rank in Capoeira) is white. In certain capoeira groups, a white colored cord is the highest rank attained.
  • Originally a female Capoeira martial artist was going to be introduced in Tekken 3 but the possible graphics at the time weren't considered good enough for the female Namco wanted in the game, so Eddy was created instead.[citation needed] Christie was later introduced in the following game, Tekken 4.
  • There has been some debate on whether Eddy and Christie have been good for the art of Capoeira. On one hand, they have popularized the Brazilian martial art, but on the other, they are adding to the misconceptions about the art. Capoeira still has strong underlying philosophies which haven't been separated to create a corporate sport, like what has happened to most martial arts.
  • Gordo, in Portuguese and Spanish respectively, means "fat".
  • Some of Eddy's moves are gymnastics, not Capoeira (specifically the flare and windmill movements).
  • Since Christie's debut, up until Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Eddy did not have an ending animation of his own. Instead, he shared his endings with Christie.
    • Eddy had also never spoken in any of his endings up until Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
  • Eddy is mentioned in comedian Dane Cook's skit about the time he saw a guy getting hit by a car ("He gets hit right in his center of gravity, that sends you flipping through the air like Eddy Gordo from Tekken when somebody doesn't know how to do combos and they're just hitting the buttons randomly...").
  • The word "Falsca" is written, from Tekken 5 to Tekken Tag Tournament 2, in white on the chest and the sides of the legs on Eddy's Capoeira uniform.

Tekken 3:

  • There is a glitch with Eddy (and Tiger) when he is used as a Practice Mode dummy. All attacks performed on Eddy are read as a combo string, and it doesn't reset until the player knocks him down or into full crouch.

Tekken 4:

  • Eddy is selectable by pressing "Triangle" while on Christie at the "Character Select" screen.

Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection:

  • Eddy is selectable by first purchasing Christie's alternate costume in the "Customize" section. Afterwards, he can be chosen by pressing "Triangle" or "Circle" while on Christie at the "Character Select" screen.
  • Strangely, when playing as Christie, the player can see the camera move while Christie dances. But when playing as Eddy, the camera doesn't move while Eddy dances. This may be due to a mistake made while the game was in development. Although, Namco hasn't confirmed this until present.
  • Eddy's sub-bosses at Stage 4 and Stage 7 are Christie and Kazuya, respectively.
  • From Dark Resurrection and onwards, Eddy has his own section on the "Character Select" screen.
  • This is the last game where Eddy can slap back at either Nina or Anna.

Tekken 6 and Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion:

  • In an early Tekken 6 image, Eddy appeared to be returning as a costume swap for Christie Monteiro. However, this was revealed to be false, as Tekken 6's "Character Select" screen shows that Eddy has his own character space.
  • Eddy can be customized to resemble Tiger Jackson.
  • He can also be customized to resemble Wally from the Where's Wally books, Bob Makihara from the Tenjou Tenge manga/anime series, Cody from the Final Fight and Street Fighter games, Shen Woo from the games of SNK, and Brad Burns for the Virtua Fighter series (but those last 2 were said that those can be "customized" to Miguel and TTT2).
  • In the Scenario Campaign mode, Eddy is shown in a cutscene with Nina and Jin after Lars attacked the lab Alisa was in. Eddy tells Jin that he'll hold his part of the deal for saving his master's life.
  • In the Scenario Campaign mode, Eddy serves as the boss of the "Tekken Force 4th Special Forces Operational Group Command" stage.
  • When the player plays as Christie in Eddy's boss stage, it is not to find Eddy and his grandfather who is mysteriously gone missing. But to her discovery that Eddy works for the Mishima Zaibatsu as a Special Operations Unit for the Tekken Force. Which angers Christie for his motives in joining the Zaibatsu as she angrily states to him. "Eddy, you're working for Mishima? I don't believe this."
  • Eddy's first three opponents in Scenario Campaign's "Arena" mode are Lars, Anna and Kazuya.
  • This is the first game where Eddy can headbutt back at Heihachi.
  • He is the only male character to slap his opponent while he is mounted on them. Every other male punches their opponent.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2:

  • Eddy starts speaking in his native language (Portuguese).
  • It is possible to customize Eddy to resemble Tiger despite the latter himself being playable in the console.

  • In the live-action Tekken 2010 film, his name was incorrectly spelled Eddie Gordo.
