Inferno (インフェルノ inferuno), originally called Killer Beam in the US and EU versions of Tekken 2 (it has always been called Inferno in the Japanese version), is an unblockable move used by Devil and Angel. In its typical appearance the user bows down and crosses their arms then stands straight up with their arms spread and unleashes a laser from their head that goes across an infinite range in front of them.

Inferno can be avoided by simply crouching, and also by sidestepping starting from Tekken Tag Tournament.

In Tekken 8 Kazuya does not need to be transformed into Devil to perform the attack but the attack will not retain its unblockable property unless Kazuya is transformed into Devil (it will do chip damage, however). It was given a different command and reanimated (Kazuya now assumes a pose where he leans towards his opponent).

Effect on Robots[]

In Tekken Tag Tournament, the attack is known to cause members of the Jack series to go haywire[1] and will perform the Haywire Windmill Punches, if they are standing.

  • Clip 4: During the Windmill Punches, if Devil successfully fires his laser a second time, the Jacks will evade the beam by doing a Haywire Sliding Attack.
  • Clip 5: The Sliding Attack does not activate if shot a second time from behind.
  • Clips 6-8: If attacked with a high or mid attack during the Windmill Punches, the Jacks will perform Haywire Clock Up, which will do damage if the attack by Devil (or tag partner) connects. Low or special mid attacks will however connect normally and not cause the Haywire Clock Up.
  • Clips 9-10: It is not necessary for an attack to actually connect with the Jacks' bodies, as long as it's within the programmed hitboxes. So purposely whiffing an attack can make the Jacks perform Haywire Clock Up, without Devil taking any damage. However, any attack or grab attempt to the Jacks during the Haywire Clock Up animation will have the same effects as explained above (this includes lows or special mids, the Jacks are completely invincible during Haywire Clock Up).
  • Clips 11-12: It is during the entire animation of the Haywire Windmill Punches that the Jacks can go into Haywire Clock Up or Haywire Sliding Attack, not just while the arms are swinging.

In Tekken 5 onwards, none of this applies. Using Inferno on Jack-6, P.Jack or Alisa will cause them to shake and fall down; the original stun for Inferno. During this animation, pressing 1+2 will cause them to perform a Haywire Clock Up instead of falling, and restore some of their lost health.

Trivia[]

  • In Tekken 2, the attack will actually miss[2] small characters like Marshall Law or Wang Jinrei due to their shorter height. This was obviously fixed in Tekken Tag Tournament.
  • In Tekken 2, only the start of the laser has to be avoided; the opponent is then able to stand up and walk through the laser unharmed. This was also fixed in Tekken Tag Tournament.
  • In the console ports of Tekken Tag Tournament, the color of Inferno is changed to purple. The reason for this is unknown.
  • Kazuya's Item Move in Tekken 6 references Inferno as he takes his sunglasses off to fire a laser.
  • During the beta for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Inferno's property on hit was different before it was changed to function identically to Hellfire Blast. Also only in the beta, Alisa, and presumably Jack-6, could not perform the Hellfire Blast Recover after being hit by Inferno.[3]
