Mishima Polytechnical School (三島工業高等専門学校, Mishima Kōgyōkōtōsenmon gakkō^?) is a fictional Japanese school in the Tekken series.

Background

Mishima Polytechnical School is a high school in Japan. It was founded by Heihachi Mishima as a part of the Mishima Zaibatsu conglomerate, and, as such, has a giant golden statue of Heihachi on its grounds.

Its students have included Jin Kazama, Ling Xiaoyu and Miharu Hirano. Jin stopped attending in advance of the third King of Iron Fist Tournament in order to focus on training to defeat Ogre. He was 19 at this time, suggesting he may have been put back a year or two when he attended school (he likely did not attend a school until he was fifteen).

The school offers a number of vocational programs, as evidenced by Jin enrolling in mechanical engineering whilst he attended the school.

Tekken Force Training Institute

Whilst the school purports to operate as a normal high school, it was also the official school of the Mishima Zaibatsu, and more covertly served as a training institute for Tekken Force, numerous members of whom graduated from the school. An amnesiac Lars Alexandersson vaguely recalls these details, possibly indicating that he himself attended the school. The dual purpose of Mishima Polytechnicaal School as a Tekken Force training school is also mentioned in Tekken 7, as Kunimitsu II goes undercover as an industry student to learn more about the Tekken Force link to the school.

School Founding

It is possible that the school has been around for some time, as the statue outside it shows Heihachi in his youth, and Lee Chaolan, on approaching the school, wonders if the statue is still there. Kazuya Mishima, however, immediately identifies the place as a Tekken Force training facility, rather than somewhere he is familiar with. It is therefore likely that Lee and Kazuya did not attend this school, but that it has been around for a long time. Given its use as a Tekken Force facility, it was likely founded at around the same time as Tekken Force, shortly after Tekken 2.

Description

The school appearance varies slightly across games, but it is a modern complex of buildings, with most buildings having two or three floors. In Tekken Tag Tournament it has a more brutalist design, whilst in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, the design is more sleek and modern. The school is mostly grey concrete and has large glass windows, especially on its main façade. The main façade has two flights of steps leading up to a tower, on which the school name is written vertically down the middle. The school has numerous playgrounds and sports fields. Most memorably, it has an enormous gold statue of Heihachi outside it, which is taller than the school building itself. The school is spacious and has decorative greenery and sakura trees, along with some small stone shrines in the playgrounds.

Appearances

The school appears in both Tekken 3 (High School) and Tekken Tag Tournament (School-A and School-B) as a backdrop in one of the stages, with several Mishima High School students standing in a circle in the schoolyard, cheering the fighters on.

In Tekken 6, it appears as Xiaoyu and Panda's stage in the Scenario Campaign.

The school also returned as one of the stages in Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

It also made an appearance in the non-canonical movie Tekken: Blood Vengeance, as the school Xiaoyu attended before she was transferred to work undercover for G Corporation at Kyoto International School.

Uniforms

There appears to be a boys' uniform and a girls' uniform for the Mishima Polytechnical School. The boys' uniform consists of green tartan pants, a white shirt, and a navy sweater. The girls' uniform is a white shirt, white socks, and a green tartan dress with a blue bow on the front. In the (non-canon) Tekken: Blood Vengeance a variant school uniform is instead shown, with a white shirt, red tie, and green tartan skirt for the girls, and a white shirt and grey pants for the boys.

The school uniform dresscode appears as the alternate costumes of both Jin and Xiaoyu in Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament, and in Xiaoyu's case, Tekken 4 as well.

Trivia

• Jin Kazama is a former student, but was absent since the events of Tekken 3; he owned the school while he was president of the Mishima Zaibatsu.
• According to Bruce Irvin's Scenario Campaign Dialogues, numerous Tekken Force members graduated from the Mishima Polytechnical School, which was recognised as the official school of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Alisa also confirms that the school operates under the guise of an ordinary school whilst serving as a training institute for the Tekken Force.
  • An amnesiac Lars recalls these details vaguely, possibly indicating that he himself trained here as a Tekken Force recruit.
• The golden statue of Heihachi Mishima on the school grounds depicts him in his youth before he balded, shirtless with his arms folded, and wearing hakama. The statue is enormous, and (plinth included) stands taller than the three-storey school next to it.
• Katsuhiro Harada stated that, as a technical school, Mishima Polytechnic also offers post-high school level qualifications.
• It is commonly believed that Lili, Panda and Asuka's Tekken 6 endings take place in front of the school's main entrance. The dialogue and actions of Lili and Asuka in the endings seem to imply that they have recently transferred to the school, but there is no conclusive evidence to support this thought except that the background is identical to the area Xiaoyu is fought at in the Scenario Campaign, but if Asuka visits the stage, she indicates that she isn't a student.
  • Furthermore, the lack of the school's nameplate and Heihachi statue, as well as the changes in the structure of the gate and school buildings, casts doubt on whether or not it is Mishima High to begin with and opens the possibility for it in fact being Asuka's school or something third entirely.
  • It should also be noted that in the console opening movie, Lili and Asuka also fight here but they are here fighting in their default outfits and not school uniforms, Lili's limousine is not present, and the gates to the school are locked.
    • In Tekken the Pachislot 2nd, both Asuka and Lili are students at Mishima High along with Ling Xiaoyu but this is non-canon.
• Several ending movies occur in front of the Mishima High School, such as Kuma and Panda's joint Tekken 3 ending and the latter's Tekken Tag Tournament ending.
• Mishima Polytechnical school briefly appears in Tekken: Blood Vengeance, before Xiaoyu transfers to Kyoto International School. In the school office a portrait of Heihachi Mishima is hung behind the school desk in the principal's office.
  • A secret laboratory where Shin Kamiya and his friends were used as test subjects for immortality is located underground. The school uniforms haves some differences to those of their video game counterparts.
  • In Tekken: Blood Vengeance, Ganryu works as a physical education teacher at the school .
• In Kuma's Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ending, one of the girls who took a picture with Kuma wears the Mishima High school uniform with a different color scheme. It is unknown whether Mishima High accepts color variations to their uniforms, but it's sure that it looks like a customization change. Moreover, they seem to be friends with another girl who seems to be from another (Asuka's) school.
