Hwoarang is a South Korean Taekwondo practitioner who frequently appears in doboks and biker/street style outfits throughout the series. He usually has shoulder-length hair which is dyed orange and either kept in a swept-back style with his goggles, worn loose, or held out of his face by a headband. He wears his natural black hair mostly restored in Tekken 7 with the exception of a single orange streak in the front.

Tekken 3[]

Player 1 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 1 outfit is his dobok. His long-sleeved jacket is white with black bordering along the seams, and is worn open. The black Hangul word emblazoned centrally on the back of the jacket, 맥, has a meaning which roughly translates to 'a continuous spiritual flow of perseverance'. Hwoarang's name is written in red block capitals below the Hangul. His pants match the color scheme of the jacket. They are fastened with a black belt which has yellow embroidery present on it. He wears matching blue hand and foot guards. The longer sections of Hwoarang's shoulder-length, centrally parted orange hair are held out of his face by a black and white headband.

  • This dobok is the foundation for the majority of Hwoarang's Player 1 outfits.
Demon Head design

Player 2 tank top back design

Player 2 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 2 outfit has a biker motif. Hwoarang wears a fitted gray-purple tank top, black fingerless gloves, gray jeans fastened with a black belt, black chaps, and brown cowboy boots complete with spurs. On the back of his tank top, there is a design depicting a ram skull with a third eye in the center of its head, plus interlinking red and black patterns either side of the skull. Hwoarang additionally wears two black straps on his left wrist and a pair of motorcycle goggles on his forehead. Hwoarang's hair is worn in a swept-back style.

  • Hwoarang wears this outfit in his ending cutscene. In the opening scene, he is not wearing his goggles, and his hair is loose rather than pushed back. His googles and swept-back hairstyle are present in the latter half of the video.

Tekken Tag Tournament[]

In Tekken Tag Tournament, Hwoarang's Player 1 and Player 2 outfits are palette swaps of his Tekken 3 outfits.

Player 1 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 1 outfit is a palette-swapped version of his Player 1 dobok from Tekken 3. The white portions of his outfit are now teal and the black portions are white (with the exception of his belt, which remains black, and the Hangul on his back, which is black with a white border). His hand and footguards are dark purple rather than blue. On the back of his jacket, Hwoarang's name is written in white text rather than red text.

Player 2 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 2 outfit is a palette-swapped version of his Player 2 appearance from Tekken 3. Though his jeans, boots, and gloves remain close in color to their Tekken 3 palette, Hwoarang's tank top is now white instead of gray-purple, and his chaps are navy blue rather than black. On the back of his top, the patterns at each side of the skull are now black and blue rather than black and red.

Tekken 4[]

Player 1 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 1 outfit is a dobok with marked differences to the one he wore in Tekken 3. This dobok is primarily white with blue bordering along its seams. The top consists of a long v-neck vest. There is a small taegeuk on the left side of Hwoarang's top, and a larger one positioned centrally on the back. The large taegeuk is circled by three orange designs, each of which looks like the side profile of a wing with a large white talon emerging from it. Hwoarang's name is written in orange block capitals below the large taegeuk. His hand guards are blue and black with white wrist straps, and feature a symbol on their backs, beneath which Hwoarang's name is written in white block capitals. At his waist, Hwoarang wears a black belt that is embroidered with a taegeuk, two yellow bars, and his name in yellow block capitals. His pants are full-length and loose-fitting, and match the color scheme of his top. There are matching red tribal designs at the bottom of each pant leg. He wears black sneakers rather than foot guards. Hwoarang's shoulder-length hair is red with dark roots, and is worn loose.

  • Hwoarang wears this outfit in his ending cutscene.
  • Concept art shows a version of this outfit with some minor differences, including an alternate design on Hwoarang's pant legs and a small chain attached to his belt.

Player 2 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 2 outfit consists of the uniform he was wearing when he deserted the South Korean Army. He wears a light green T-shirt underneath an armored vest with black and khaki panels. His fingerless tactical gloves are green at the wrist strap and on top, and black on the underside. He wears dark pants fastened with a striped green belt, plus camouflage chaps and light green knee pads on top. His sneakers are light gray with black panels and laces. Hwoarang's red hair is short and worn in a spiky style.

  • Concept art for this outfit depicts Hwoarang with a dark green jacket and duffel bag, as well as a handgun. The jacket and handgun can be seen in art panels during Hwoarang's Story Mode prologue, and both the jacket and duffel bag were included as accessories with the Tekken 4 Hwoarang action figure produced by Epoch.

Tekken 5/Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection[]

Player 1 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 1 outfit is broadly similar to his Tekken 3 Player 1 outfit. Among the most notable changes between the designs is the replacement of the hangul on the back of his jacket with a stylized red silhouette of a bird of prey; similar designs are also present at the bottom of each pant leg. The taegeuk and trigrams from the Taegeukgi are present on the front left side of his jacket, and each of his blue gloves now has a taegeuk on its back. His black belt is embroidered similarly to the one from his Tekken 4 Player 1 outfit.

  • In Dark Resurrection his dobok and headband receive minor palette swaps, with his dobok and headband changed to navy blue and his gloves and footguards changed to red.

Player 2 outfit:
Hwoarang wears a green and orange leather vest with a closed zip up its middle and a silver toggle at the collar. The green portions of the vest are embossed with a symmetrical design. The ram skull design from the back of his Tekken 3 Player 2 outfit makes a return, though the design has been revamped; the shape and appearance of the skull has been simplified somewhat, and the designs to the side of it now resemble stylized orange flames. 'Demon Head' is written beneath the skull in white text. Hwoarang wears three black belts around each thigh and four black belts around each calf; these belts secure dark green pseudo-chaps to the outsides of his legs. Beneath the chaps, Hwoarang wears blue denim jeans, which are held in place by a brown belt with a large silver buckle. His boots are orange with light tan soles, silver metal toecaps with cross designs on them, and spurs fixed to the heels. Hwoarang's fingerless gloves are a similar shade of blue to his jeans, and the backs of them are dotted with silver rivets. He wears two black straps around each wrist. His goggles make a return from Tekken 3, and are once again worn pushed up to his hairline. His hair is worn swept back.

  • In Dark Resurrection he receives a minor palette swap, with his vest, chaps, and boots colored yellow rather than orange.
  • Hwoarang wears this outfit in both he and Baek's ending cutscenes.

Tekken 6/Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion[]

Player 1 outfit:
(See Tekken 5 Player 1 outfit)

Player 2 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 2 outfit takes cues from its Tekken 5 counterpart, but is distinct in most of its details. His leather vest is orange-tan and green with a bronze zip and a buckle strap fastening on the collar. It is worn partially unzipped, and the cut of the vest is short, exposing a small strip of Hwoarang's midriff. A symmetrical design is embossed on the front tan panel of his vest. The ram skull design on the back of the vest has not changed markedly from Tekken 5, but the 'Demon Head' text is now absent. Hwoarang wears a silver chain necklace with a pendant depicting a human skull in the center of a six-pointed star. His tan leather gloves are decorated with bronze rivets, and each of his wrists is wrapped with two brown buckle straps. He wears blue denim jeans secured by a brown belt decorated with a large silver buckle and metal buttons. Fitted over the jeans are a pair of brown chaps with stylized fire designs and metal buttons down the outer side of each leg. He has two tan belts strapped around his upper left thigh. His boots are brown with decorative silver metal toe caps and bronze spurs fixed to the heels. Hwoarang's goggles have black frames and red lenses.

  • This outfit appeared in the E3 2006 trailer for Tekken 6, which depicted Hwoarang fighting Jin alongside Lili.
  • Hwoarang wears this outfit in both he and Baek's ending cutscenes.

Street Fighter X Tekken[]

Player 1 outfit:
(See Tekken 6 Player 2 outfit)

Swap Costume:
Hwoarang's Swap Costume is based on Dee Jay. The outfit consists of a white tank top with alternating red, yellow and green stripes along the top's sides; baggy black pants with a yellow waistband and a broad, red-bordered white strip along the outer side of each leg (the word'MAXIMUM' is written in bold yellow and orange letters within each white strip); and sneakers that are white and two shades of purple. His fingerless gloves are bright green with red detailing and yellow and black wrist straps. His orange hair is worn in long dreadlocks, and he has black-framed goggles with red lenses pushed up to his hairline.

Alternate Costume:
Hwoarang wears his gym attire customization in Tekken 6 as he wears a cyan and black collared jacket with a Korean emblem in the right sleeves, matching cyan and black capris and blue and white sneakers. He also wears black gloves and his orange hair is styled in a short spiked hair similar to his Player 2 appearance in Tekken 4.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2[]

Preset A outfit:
(See Tekken 6 Player 2 outfit)

Preset A Player 2 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 2 outfit is a palette swap of his Player 1 Preset A outfit, with the center panel of his vest being black while the sides are red. His chaps are now also slightly darker, and the backs of his gloves as well as his boots are now red.

Preset B outfit:
Hwoarang's Preset B outfit consists of a dark green puffer jacket with a white, fur lined collar and black trim along the hem and cuffs over a light gray high-necked shirt. With this, he wears green, brown, and black camouflage pattern cargo pants, brown leather boots, and matching brown leather gloves. He maintains the goggles worn around his head in this outfit.

Preset C outfit:
Hwoarang's Preset C outfit is the Wii U exclusive Fox McCloud outfit (shared with Baek Doo San, Doctor Bosconovitch, Lee Chaolan, and Steve Fox). Hwoarang has large orange-brown fox ears coming out of his hair, and a cut off white flight jacket with the sleeves rolled up, over a pea-green zip-up top. Beneath this is a black top and a red neckerchief. He wears a solid metal black and white belt, and pea-green pants tucked into futuristic articulated white and gray knee-high boots. He also wears short gray gloves.

Preset D outfit:
Hwoarang's Preset D outfit is his Snoop Lion collaboration outfit. It consists of a white short sleeved tracksuit with a high neck red collar, red lines down the sleeves, red trim along the zipper, red pockets, and red lines down the outer side of the pant legs. On the left of the chest is an emblem with the Rastafari flag colors containing a gold, stylized lion wearing a crown with matching colors to the emblem and the words "Snoop Lion" above it. On the back of the tracksuit jacket is the same emblem but enlarged to cover the upper back. In this outfit, Hwoarang wears light turquoise jogging shoes with white accents, white laces, and darker turquoise soles.

  • His swimsuit DLC is a fundoshi and a matching tabi and it can be chosen in three default colors.
  • His other swimsuit has him to wear a pair of red swimming trunks.

Tekken 7/Tekken 7: Fated Retribution[]

Player 1 outfit:
In the Fated Retribution update, Hwoarang now wears a white, short-sleeved shirt that exposes some of his midsection and has a red sun mark on the left of the chest. On his right arm he has a black arm band reaching from the end of his sleeve to just past his elbow that has a white flame mark. Over his shoulders, Hwoarang wears a blue leather jacket with a gold chain attached to the collar and around his neck with a black skull design at the back that has a single red eye and an eyepatch over the right eye. Above this skull design reads "Blood Talon". The lining of this jacket is orange with lighter orange designs along the inside.

Hwoarang also wears gray jeans with black paneling from the inner thighs to the outer ankle surrounded by light brown stitching. At each side of the jeans are layered pockets above two silver zippers, and at the bottom of the left ankle is a white skull design which also reads "Blood Talon". Along the back of the jeans is a single strap with a silver buckle. With these jeans, Hwoarang wears a brown leather belt with a large silver buckle and a wallet chain around his right hip connected to his belt loops. The belt has a beige tag at the back which reads "Blood Talon" next to a skull design that also bears an eyepatch. The height of his jeans reveal the waistline of his underwear which is green, orange, and white, and reads "Hunting Hawk" in black. Hwoarang's boots maintain a similar color scheme to his previous outfits, with an orange vamp and silver metal toes. In Fated Retribution, the toes of his boots are shaped like sharks, with sharp teeth around the toe and eyes at the top. The vamps are also surrounded by four dark blue leather straps connected to a metallic ring at the center. The heels of each boot have metallic spikes along the back and the soles of his boots are light brown.

This new outfit is accessorized with blue, fingerless gloves with dark blue palms, spiked bracelets matching the spiked necklace he wears with a skull charm at the front, and an eyepatch over his right eye that he is implied to have received after the eye was damaged (or possibly lost) when he saved Devil Jin from a UN grenade in their shared ending.

Player 2 outfit:
Hwoarang's Player 2 outfit is a palette swap of his Player 1 outfit, changing his shirt and gloves to gray, and his leather jacket to scarlet with a red-brown lining that has pale red designs along the interior. The white design on his arm band has also been changed to red.

Default 3 outfit:
Hwoarang's Default 3 outfit is a palette swap of his Tekken 6 Player Two outfit. In this version of the outfit, his chaps and the center panel of his vest are dark green, while the sides of his vest are orange. His gloves, boots, the straps around his left leg, and the designs along the sides of his chaps are now a brighter shade of orange than in previous iterations of the outfit. Hwoarang wears this outfit to face off against Devil Jin in their Character Episodes. In the initial release of Tekken 7, this was Hwoarang's Player 1 outfit; it was replaced by his current Player 1 outfit with the release of Tekken 7: Fated Retribution.

Default 4 outfit:
Hwoarang's Default 4 outfit is a palette swap of his Default 3 outfit. In this version of the outfit, his vest is blue in the center and white along the sides, matching the blue on the palms of his gloves and the white of the straps around the wrists of each glove. The outer side of his gloves as well as his jeans are now pale green. Hwoarang's chaps are now dark blue with two white straps over the upper left thigh, and the vamps of his boots are also white.

Aside from his four default outfits, Hwoarang has eight preset outfits that can be chosen or made via the customization screen, and a gold metallic outfit that is unlocked only by purchasing Tekken 7's Season Pass 1 DLC. In all but his Preset 6 outfit, Hwoarang's eyepatch will not be worn in presets chosen from the character select screen.

Tekken 8[]

In Tekken 8, Hwoarang regains his dyed orange hair, the front and upper sections of which are tied back into a top knot while the back sections are worn loose over his shoulders. The eyepatch present in his primary Tekken 7 outfit is absent in his main outfit.

Player 1 outfit:
Hwoarang wears a white Taekwondo dobok with a black collar bearing a "Blood Talon" label on the right side of said collar. There are blue lines down the shoulders leading to black and white tags reading "맥", with the word "Vein" printed underneath, stopping at the top seam of the sleeves, which are rolled up to be worn high around Hwoarang's biceps. On the left side of the dobok, at the front of his shoulder, there are three orange designs shaped like claw or talon marks. Below this, on the left side of his chest, is the same black hangul reading 맥; this hangul was also present on his Player 1 outfit in Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament and roughly translates to 'a continuous spiritual flow of perseverance.' The word "Vein" that is printed underneath this hangul on his shoulders is the direct, literal translation of this. The back of the dobok jacket bears this hangul as well, positioned centrally and surrounded by a stylized swirling taegeuk which in turn is encircled by a symmetrical design reminiscent of fanned feathers. "Hunting Hawk" is emblazoned across the top of his jacket in white block capital letters, and there is another label reading "Blood Talon" on the jacket's tail. Hwoarang has a black belt tied around his waist with orange and white bands on the left end of the belt and more hangul reading "화랑" (Hwa-rang) on the right end. He wears black dobok pants with orange designs down the side, black shoes with orange and white soles, and matching black fingerless gloves with orange protective padding on the outside, also with "Hunting Hawk" printed across the wrist straps.

Player 2 outfit:
His Player 2 outfit is a palette swap of his main outfit. His Taekwondo dobok is now teal, similar to his pallete swap in Tekken Tag Tournament, and the designs of his black dobok pants are now dark blue while his shoes are a faded dark blue with black soles.

Default 3 outfit:

Default 4 outfit:
As with all returning characters, Hwoarang's Tekken 7 Player 1 outfit returns as his fourth outfit. He retains his topknot hairstyle while wearing the outfit.

Costume 1:

(See Tekken 7 Default 3 outfit)

Hwoarang retains his topknot hairstyle while wearing the outfit.

Tekken: Bloodline[]

For the majority of the animated series Tekken: Bloodline, Hwoarang wears his Tekken 5 Player 1 dobok, though the bordering of the outfit is blue rather than black, recalling the color scheme of his Tekken 4 Player 1 outfit. Hwoarang makes a brief appearance in his Tekken 3 Player 1 outfit during a montage in episode two.
