Jin Kazama (風間 仁 Kazama Jin?) is one of the main characters of the Tekken series. He is featured on the packaging for the console version of almost every sequel following his introduction in Tekken 3. He has also been the main protagonist for the majority of the following entries ever since his debut in Tekken 3 as he has been trying to end the Mishima Bloodline and save the world from a certain evil, with the exceptions of his role as an anti-hero in Tekken 6 (with Lars Alexandersson taking his role as the protagonist) and a supporting character in Tekken 7 (with Heihachi Mishima and Kazuya Mishima taking the role as the main characters of the game). Jin is the son of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama, the grandson of Heihachi Mishima and Kazumi Mishima, the adoptive nephew of Lee Chaolan, the half-nephew of Lars Alexandersson, a relative to Asuka Kazama, and the great-grandson of Jinpachi Mishima.
Biography
Jin Kazama is the son of Jun Kazama and Kazuya Mishima. Jun's intimate relationship with Kazuya grew and she became pregnant with Jin. The devil within Kazuya attempted to enter Jin while he was still in his mother's womb, but Jun managed to fight it off. Afterwards, Jun moved to a remote location in the mountains where she raised Jin and trained him in the Kazama family's self-defense fighting style.
Several years later, Jun sensed the approaching of a great evil and decided that it was about time she told Jin concerning his origins. She also told him that if anything were to happen to her, he should look for his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima. Jun's premonitions proved to be true, as she was attacked by Ogre four days later on Jin's 15th birthday. Hours after the chaos, Jin, who fell unconscious, then awoke amongst the rubble and began searching for his mother, with no success, enraged, Jin swore revenge. He was then taken in by Heihachi, who began to train him in Mishima-style Karate.
Personality
Jin's actions and surroundings fit the mold of a quintessential "tragic hero", excluding the lack of a tragic flaw as of Tekken 6. As with many tragedies, all of the major traumatic events that occur within the hero's life are beyond his control:
First and foremost, there's the fact that his grandfather, and father are two of the most evil and ruthless individuals who've ever lived on the face of the earth. Secondly, his mother was cruelly and abruptly taken from him while he was still a teenager. Third, he was betrayed by his grandfather, whom he trusted deeply. Fourth, the return of his great-grandfather, Jinpachi Mishima, has caused him to begin losing his internal struggle with the Devil within. Fifth, the appearance of Azazel prompts him to corrupt the Mishima Zaibatsu further just for the chance to face the beast and sacrifice himself to destroy it. Each of these occurs to a helpless and unassuming Jin, who is simply doing what he can to set things right at every turn.
It is known that Jin used to be "sweet and nice" (as described by Ling Xiaoyu and mentioned by other characters), before all the above-mentioned events happened, however after everything he went through, he seems to have lost all his human feelings.
Jin's personality ranges from stoic and calm to rude and arrogant at various moments, and his words and actions hint toward the bitterness within. Although he is portrayed as a monster in his Devil form, in general, he is never portrayed as evil (unlike Kazuya, and Heihachi), and everything that he does, he does for a good reason.
He also has one personality trait which is common with many Japanese action heroes. Once Jin's mind is focused in any particular direction, it is immensely difficult to get him to change or even notice the events and people around him. People close to him, including Hwoarang, and Xiaoyu, are always going to extremes to gain Jin's attention, and yet, he maintains an indifferent demeanor towards them.
Jin's disinterest in close relations perhaps results from the Devil Gene. As a result of his family's bloodline curse, Jin thinks that the people he loves will likely suffer if he ever completely succumbs to the Devil Gene or becomes one with it like his father. In short, during Tekken 4, Jin planned to destroy his father, and grandfather, and then himself, dying without children to put an end to the Mishima curse once and for all. However, Jin could not go through it after defeating his two predecessors, so it's unknown if he has given up on this plan completely since he saw the image of his mother Jun.
In the events of Tekken 6, Jin uses his new position as the CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu to throw the world into chaos in hopes of a cure. Although his intentions are entirely benevolent since he seeks to use this to awaken and then destroy a much greater threat, Azazel. Believing that defeating this monster could help get rid of his curse, Jin might have destroyed countless people's property, ruined many lives and gain lots of enemies through his actions. This may mean that Jin (no matter how painful it is for him) is willing to go out of his morals if that is what it takes to save the world. This again shows that no matter how indifferent and arrogant Jin seems to be, he is still a good man.
In Street Fighter X Tekken, Jin is depicted as being rebellious and hostile towards most people. He prefers to be alone and does not want others to interfere in his fights (as shown in the dialogues and quotes). He also seems rude (in the dialogues) and keeps telling Xiaoyu to stop following him. In their ending, however, Jin seems to care about his friend Xiaoyu, when he gets affected by the Pandora and tells her to stay away, not willing to hurt her.
In Namco X Capcom, Jin still in touch with a fellow cursed martial artist which is Ryu from Street Fighter who also seeks to remove the Satsui no Hado within him.
Unlike Street Fighter X Tekken, Jin doesn't seem to be so arrogant and rude in Project X Zone and it's sequel. He seems more calm and kind hearted, (even to Xiaoyu); he avoids killing Heihachi when he had several opportunities. Jin is shown to be very reluctant to the other characters from different games when he was joining to fight off monsters or demons as well as aiding Ryu and Akira from Virtua Fighter to fight off Seth who targets both he and Ryu in order to use his BLECE machine. But towards the fight against the main antagonist and final boss, Meden Traore, his wife, Due Flabellum, and the Belanos Brothers, Jin is shown to be a serious and very determined person. Jin also assists the other characters including his grandfather Heihachi, and Xiaoyu whenever he can, especially towards both protagonists Kogoro Tenzai and Mii Kouryuji to put an end to their misery. This was carried on when having an uneasy alliance with his father, Kazuya to save the world with the other Namco Bandai, Capcom, Sega, and Nintendo heroes from Ouma's plot. However, Jin also retains a small degree of his rudeness, particularly toward certain characters who were impressed with people who possesses the Devil Gene (eg. Valkyrie and Ingrid). Jin warns others about his father Kazuya and is confused towards other martial artists from other games during his encounter with Ryo Hazuki, Axel Stone and Segata Sanshiro who knows them both for being created by the producer of their game, Katsuhiro Harada.
Appearance
Jin Kazama is of Japanese ethnicity. He has black hair that spikes at the back of his head, similar to that of his father, Kazuya Mishima. He also sports fringes, like his mother. Jin is also notably muscular with low body fat percentage, evidence of the many years of hard training. His resemblance to his father is so strong, that in early screen showings of Tekken 3 where his character was still unnamed, many fans speculated that he was a young version of Kazuya Mishima, specifically when he was in his early teen years (Tekken 3 and 4, due to their similarities). While Jin inherited his father's body structure, his face strongly resembles his mother's. One of Jin's most prominent aspects is the black mark on one of his arms, a mark that the Devil branded onto him.
Outfits
Main Article: Jin Kazama/Outfits
Jin has worn a great deal of outfits during the course of the Tekken series. The aforementioned outfits feature a flame motif, and, with the exception of a single outfit in Tekken 6, gloves or gauntlets. In Tekken 6, Jin discards his gloves from Tekken 5 that contain the Kazama family crest in lieu of ones that model his former Mishima style ones. This could be a subtle hint at his personality change. [1] Jin also had alternative clothing, which was his CEO outfit. He also has another outfit in the Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion opening, which is a black leather jacket, with white and red rider gloves, gray pants and black shoes. He also wears a matching black sunglasses which it was also shown in one scene in the Scenario Campaign mode, and Hwoarang's ending in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 while he wears his CEO outfit during their motorcycle race.
In Tekken: Blood Vengeance, he wears two outfits during the movie, the first outfit is a black long sleeve loose button shirt with an extended collar, black pants, and black shoes. During his fight with both his father, and grandfather, he dons his red and black detachable gauntlets in Tekken 6 and the other outfit is a summer version of his school uniform in Tekken 3 which it was shown in the photo frame between him and Shin Kamiya inside on his apartment.
In Tekken 7 time release updates, Jin sports a new hoodie costume made of leather.
Story
Tekken 3
At the age of 15, Jin discovered that he was Kazuya Mishima's son, and also that his mother, Jun Kazama, had died (the actual truth was that she had gone missing). Jin, after having survived the attack of Ogre, went and found Heihachi Mishima, and trained himself under the supervision of Heihachi every day with the intention of defeating Ogre, who supposedly killed his mother. Heihachi was not only his grandfather, but also proved to be a reliable teacher.
Four years later, having mastered the Kazama and Mishima Fighting Styles, Jin then started his path as a martial artist.
During the game, Jin fought and defeated numerous opponents in the tournament. He also fought against his rival, Hwoarang, although it ended in a draw. Despite this, Jin continued on through the tournament and finally arrived at the temple where Ogre was located. Just as he approached the entrance to the temple, Heihachi appeared and forced him to fight in order to lure out Ogre, but kept this from Jin. Instead, he told him that he wanted to test Jin's abilities and determine whether or not he was strong enough to fight Ogre, but Heihachi had his own plans for doing this.
Eventually, Jin defeated his grandfather, and Ogre then appeared before him. Angered by the sight of his mother's killer, Jin engaged Ogre in a fight, fueled by rage. During the fight, Ogre then absorbed Heihachi's power allowing him to become True Ogre and the fight continued.
Tekken 3 Jin Ending
Ending Description, "Dirty Blood": Jin defeated True Ogre and had avenged his mother at last. Suddenly due to the extreme battle, True Ogre violently exploded. Mere seconds after his victory, Jin is attacked by Heihachi's Tekken Force soldiers and received multiple gunshot wounds. Slowly succumbing to death, Heihachi shot Jin in the head with a handgun, therefore killing his own grandson. However, when Heihachi turned his back and walked away, he saw the bodies of his soldiers before him and turned around to see Jin morphed into his devil form, Devil Jin. Jin then slammed Heihachi through a wall of the temple and violently hurled Heihachi down into the ground. Finally, Jin spread his wings and flew off. Heihachi, weakly, sat up and watched as his grandson, Devil Jin, disappeared into the night.
Tekken 4
Brisbane, Australia; a city crowded with buildings, new and old. Nestled amongst the towering buildings of this city was a small dojo. A young man trained there, his face covered by the hood of his jacket. This young man trained there quietly, the young man was Jin.
Day after day, Jin trained in the traditional art of karate. Ever since Heihachi's betrayal, Jin loathed everything about himself; his Mishima bloodline, his fighting style, the Devil Gene in his blood, everything. He unlearned the Mishima-ryu fighting style, thanks to the dojo master's training, and mastered traditional karate.
Jin's thoughts burned with the desire to destroy the evil Mishima bloodline, the bloodline of his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, and his father, Kazuya.
One day, Jin heard rumors that The King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4 was announced.
A once in a lifetime opportunity to exterminate the Mishima clan... Without hesitation, Jin hardened his resolve to enter the tournament.
After fighting many opponents in the tournament, including Hwoarang near the end where they promised to fight in the next tournament, Jin finally had a match with Kazuya, his father. On his way to fight Kazuya, Jin encountered the Tekken Force soldiers. Jin managed to take down a number of them but was outnumbered and eventually defeated. He was then taken prisoner by the soldiers.
Heihachi's Tekken Force soldiers held Jin captive at Hon-Maru. After Kazuya had been led to Hon-Maru by Heihachi, Kazuya manages to knock Heihachi out of the door with a telekinetic force due to being possessed by Devil. When Devil attempts to get the other half of the Devil Gene within Jin, Jin gains tattoos on both his chest and arms. But to Devil's dismay, Jin also inherited the Kazama blood which restrained the assimilation. Kazuya manages to regain control of himself and he merges Devil and himself into one personality. Kazuya tries to wake his son. When Jin wakes up, he manages to break the chains and began to suffer from his Devil Gene which engulfed him in a purple haze. Jin angrily expressed his wish for his father to be dead. Jin fought Kazuya and defeated him, only to be confronted by Heihachi, Jin also dispatched him. But, when the time came to fulfill his dream of killing the Mishima bloodline, he faltered after seeing a hallucination of his mother, Jun Kazama (this could also have been her soul reaching out to him). As a result, Jin dropped his grandfather and said, "Thank my mother, Jun Kazama," before once again flying off into the night. At the last part of his ending a single white feather is shown falling along with the other falling black feathers, implying that the white feather belongs to Angel's which signifies Jin's good side.
Tekken 5
After the gruelling battle between Jin, Kazuya, and Heihachi Mishima at Hon-Maru, Jin took flight, leaving the island behind. However, he was overwhelmed by an evil presence and lost consciousness. Jin awoke to an unknown voice and saw a mountainy forest, which appeared to have been ravaged by a giant tornado.
However, Jin had no doubt that he was responsible for the destruction. Upon returning to Yakushima, Jin was plagued by recurring nightmares. Jin could feel the influence of the Devil Gene growing stronger.
"If this keeps eating away at me, I don't know how long I can hold on".
With nothing else left, Jin went out to end his bloodline.
Jin, once again, fought his rival Hwoarang, but the devil gene began to take over Jin again. During this time Hwoarang took the opportunity to strike and defeated Jin. Devil Jin awakened and defeated Hwoarang afterwards.
Tekken 5 Jin ending
Back in his human form, Jin met and battled his great-grandfather, Jinpachi Mishima and in the end defeated him. Jinpachi exploded into nothing but dust, as Jin looked up into the sky (this is possibly where Devil Within takes place). In the end, Jin walks into the Mishima Zaibatsu throne room having claimed the Zaibatsu.
Tekken 6
Jin freed the cursed Jinpachi Mishima and took over the Mishima Zaibatsu. He utilized his elite military unit, the Tekken Force, to carry out covert missions in order to engulf the world in chaos. Once he had rendered most countries' military power useless, he took over space colonies, oil fields, and other energy producing resources. He declared the Mishima Zaibatsu's independence and waged war against the rest of the world in order to vanquish an even greater evil capable of destroying the world.
The Mishima Zaibatsu swept across the globe, taking over nation after nation. But as the war continued, new opposing forces slowly began to show their presence. Jin learned that Kazuya was controlling the first and most powerful opposition, the G Corporation. When the G Corporation placed a price on his head, Jin announced The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6, as if he had been waiting for the G Corporation to make its move.
However, in the Scenario Campaign mode, it is revealed that the war and tournament were done to fill the world with enough negative energy to make the physical form of the evil entity known as Azazel because Kazuya and Jin are known as the "Two Evil Stars".
Scenario Campaign Ending
Having been "defeated" by Lars Alexandersson, Jin explained to him why he started the war and revealed that he has a half-controlled Devil Gene, which gives him no choice but to start a war with Kazuya. Jin wanted to lure Azazel out and kill it to save the world from Mishima's bloodline treachery, and the only thing that could destroy Azazel is a person who has a devil's power. Lars tells Jin that he has already taken Azazel out, just as Azazel in Golden Form appears before them. Jin then utilized his Devil's power and sacrifices himself to kill The Gold Azazel for good, to free himself from the evil inside him and save the world. After Jin defeats Azazel, Raven finds Jin's body lying in the desert. He still bears the Devil tattoo on his arm, showing that Azazel's demise has not freed him from the Devil Gene.
Tekken 6 Jin Kazama (Ending Movie 1 & 2)
Game Ending
Jin successfully defeats Azazel and Kazuya, and once out of the temple, is welcomed by one of his Tekken Force helicopters with a secretary aboard, but suddenly, she gets thrown out of the aircraft. Heihachi then appears from the helicopter. Jin realized that Heihachi had been commanding the helicopter the entire time, then Heihachi leaps out of his helicopter to commence a battle with Jin telling him that he will return the Zaibatsu back to him. Jin being victorious, escapes the collapsing temple on another one of his Tekken Force helicopters and heads back to Headquarters.
Tekken 7
Jin is one of the 4 characters added in an update after the full arcade release on March 31, 2015. Prior to becoming playable in the timed release, he was originally a non-playable sub-boss, replacing Heihachi under some conditions. However, in Fated Retribution/console ports, Jin is a no longer a sub-boss.
Story Mode
The leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu and the man who declared war on the world. Fighting the Devil inside him which gets stronger every day, he yearns to be rid of it once and for all. When his battle is over at last, will he find hope… or despair?
Jin's sudden disappearance has left the Mishima Zaibatsu in a state of chaos, allowing his grandfather Heihachi to reclaim the company in his absence.
After his supposed sacrifice on defeating Azazel put him into a comatose state, his body is taken under the UN custody. While unconscious, Jin's Devil Gene goes awry again and destroy the UN's chopper. Waking up in a weakened state, Jin walks aimlessly through the desert beneath the sandstorms of Middle East. When Arabian soldiers find him, he unconsciously unleashes a devil beam into the sky, sending the soldiers flying away. Jin soon arrives in a market while clutching his right arm, not knowing what he is doing there. He is about to be captured by the Arab soldiers who continuously pursue him only to be rescued by Lars before he collapses. His uncle quickly carries Jin into his vehicle and drives away from their pursuers.
Jin is later transported to a medical facility owned by Violet Systems to recover from his comatose state. However, Nina, who is forced to work for Heihachi, infiltrates the facility to recover Jin and take him back to the Mishima Zaibatsu. But the plan is foiled by Lee, who flies Jin to safety while he remotely destroys the facility.
Awakening from his coma after Heihachi's true death, Jin is sent out by Lars to find and kill Kazuya. He complies, as he is now the only one who can stop his father due to the devil's blood that runs through his veins, preparing to destroy Kazuya and end the cursed Mishima bloodline once and for all.
Other Appearances
Tekken: The Motion Picture
Jin made a cameo appearance as a child in Tekken: Motion Picture. Asking his mother, Jun Kazama, if he can finish reading "the story from yesterday", Jun answers, "Alright" and they soon walk home.
Tekken Tag Tournament
Jin returns from Tekken 3 as a playable character in Tekken Tag Tournament. He retains his move-set but if Heihachi is selected as his partner, he will have access to a new omen stance. While Tekken Tag Tournament being non-canonical, it is still looked at as a refined version of Tekken 3. To support that, some of the new moves to his arsenal resemble him unlearning the Mishima style and transitioning to the new karate style directly after Heihachi's betrayal when defeating True Ogre.
Ending Description: Jin picks up the unconscious body of his father and arch enemy, Kazuya. Jin is about to finish him with a single punch, only to have paused and dropped Kazuya's body back on the ground. He is then seen with his hands shaking as he falls down to his knees. This restraint is possibly due to "Kazama blood" influence or his mother's spirit taking control of him.
Jin in Kazuya's Ending: Jin is defeated while Kazuya stands over him. However, Jin is rising with vengeance (possibly showing Devil Jin spawning) and Kazuya prepares for a fight.
Jin in Jun's Ending: Jun stands over her son's unconscious body, puts her hand over his forehead and takes away the evil spirit. As she takes the evil spirit away, she gives an angelic smile to her son. When Jin gains consciousness and wakes up, Jun is nowhere to be found.
Jin in Xiaoyu's Ending: Mishima Tech lets out for the day. Xiaoyu catches up to Jin whom is in solitude, as he continues walking and she is walking backwards having a conversation with him. She then continues on her way but looks forward in a slightly worried state.
Tekken Tag Special Alliance Partners
Street Fighter X Tekken
Jin appears as a playable character in the crossover game, Street Fighter X Tekken. His official tag partner is Ling Xiaoyu. Jin is referred to as "Pitch Black Wings" in his character description. This game is not canonical to the Tekken series.
In his prologue, Jin hears the word of the Pandora crashing into the Antarctic and hears of its dark presence affecting people negatively across the globe. Sensing a power that may retain the Devil Gene, he decides to find the box. Xiaoyu tries to reason Jin from going, as it may be too dangerous, however Jin is determined to go. Xiaoyu then decides to accompany him and protect him in case something bad happens. Determined, he sets out in order to better understand his Devil powers.
For the Street Fighter characters in the arcade mode, Jin and Xiaoyu (who have succumbed to the influence of Pandora) appear as sub-boss rivals (before fighting Ogre).
For Jin and Xiaoyu in Arcade Mode, Chun-Li and Cammy are set as their rivals. Chun-Li threatens to arrest Jin, but he seems uninterested and tells her he doesn't care about the warrants, and arresting him won't be easy. Xiaoyu however, gets angry because she thinks they were trying to seduce Jin. He then challenges them to a fight to continue to search for the box.
Ending Description: After defeating Akuma, Jin and Xiaoyu finally reach the Pandora. Jin walks on ahead, with Xiaoyu watching him. When he gets closer to the box, he gets thrown into pain from the box influence. Xiaoyu runs to help Jin, but he tells her to stay back. Pandora opens and seals its effect away from Jin. Afterwards, he falls unconscious. After a while, he opens his eyes and sees Xiaoyu looking at him in a worried way. He wakes up on Xiaoyu's lap. He gets up and sees that his devil tattoo is still on his arm. He tells Xiaoyu that he won't give up and he will find a way to get rid of this curse.
His Swap Costume is modeled after Crimson Viper, a character from Street Fighter IV. The download blurb states that after defeating her, Jin took interest in Viper's gadget-laden suit and requisitioned one for himself.
Tekken: Blood Vengeance
Jin appears in the Tekken: Blood Vengeance movie as one of the main characters. He's still the CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Like G Corporation (the Zaibatsu's rival company led by Kazuya Mishima), Jin is seeking out Shin Kamiya and his involvement with the Mutare Experiment (the M-Cell). So he sends Nina Williams, his bodyguard, to Russia to activate an android named Alisa Bosconovitch and use her as a spy to gather information about Shin, who's now a student at an international school in Kyoto, Japan.
Later, Ling Xiaoyu and Alisa are able to find Shin at Kyoto Castle, where he reveals that the cause of his immortality is because of the Mutare Experiment. Jin then arrives at the castle, where he reunites with Shin, whom he was good friends with back at the Mishima Polytechnical School. After a brief conversation with his old friend, Kazuya arrives. Then, a surprisingly alive Heihachi Mishima, who survived an explosion by G-Corporation's Jacks sent to kill him and Kazuya, reveals himself and tells everyone that the experiments were engineered by him. After Shin confronts Heihachi, Jin then realizes that Shin was the sole survivor of the Mutare Experiment.
Shin then uses the cell's power to try and kill Heihachi, but Heihachi attempts to kill Shin by putting him in a deadly shoulder lock, spilling most of the teenager's blood and the M-Cell's power. Xiaoyu, Alisa, and a furious Jin demand Heihachi to stop, but Heihachi heartlessly kills Shin, ridding him of the Mutare Experiment's power. After Shin dies in the arms of Xiaoyu and Alisa, Jin, angered at the process of his friend (out of all of them) dying, decides to battle Heihachi (and his father, Kazuya) and end the Mishima Bloodline once and for all. Xiaoyu attempts to stop the fighting, but it's no use. Jin, Kazuya, and Heihachi engage in an epic three-way brawl, all the way down to the bottom of Kyoto Castle. After Heihachi defeats Kazuya, Jin defeats and seemingly kills his grandfather by punching him through a brick wall and sending him falling to his apparent death, avenging Shin.
Afterwards, Kazuya regains conscious and confronts Jin. He then transforms into his Devil form and physically strikes Jin (possibly with telekinesis), sending him through the wall and taking the battle outside. Jin attempts to defeat him without the usage of his Devil powers, but Jin was no match for his demonic father and Devil Kazuya cruelly urges him to transform into Devil Jin. Alisa then attempts to defeat Devil Kazuya instead, but is shut down by Jin. Annoyed that Jin has been using a "doll" to do his work, Devil Kazuya crushes Alisa in half with one single stomp, throwing Xiaoyu into despair. Afterwards, Jin finally transforms into Devil Jin, in order to put an end to the Mishima Bloodline; though his form is completely unstable and out of control. Devil Kazuya then easily defeats his son. However, as he believes he's victorious, Jin finally takes control of his new form, surprising Devil Kazuya and revealing that he never needed the M-Cell. His Devil powers now utilized, Jin successfully defeats his father, sending him plummetting into a nearby waterfall and declaring that the Devil's power is now his.
Afterwards, Jin finds Xiaoyu weeping uncontrollably next to Alisa's destroyed body. After the two friends have a brief conversation about their friendship, Heihachi is revealed to still be alive. Underneath the ruins of the castle, he destroys the coffin harboring the spirits of the Mokujin, which was the material that the castle was made of. This causes Heihachi to then transform into a giant monster, in order for him to annihilate his grandson. Though the Mokujin tries to stop him, he ignores them and attempts to use their power to kill Jin. However, Alisa reactivates herself (due to Xiaoyu's tears and despair) and sacrifices herself to strike Heihachi's weak point. Because of this, Jin finally defeats his grandfather and sends the monster tumbling to the ground. Heihachi's fate (along with Kazuya's) is unknown.
With the battle finally over, Jin puts Alisa back online, making Xiaoyu happy. He then tells Xiaoyu that in time, she will come to defeat him and he'll be waiting. Jin then flies back to the Mishima Zaibatsu.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Jin is a playable character in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. He has his move-set from Tekken 6 with some slight modifications. His Lingering Soul Omen has been removed and replaced with something similar. This would be his Zenshin stance. Essentially, Zenshin is a variation of his Mental Alertness (2) stance, but instead, Jin remains in a stationary position. Intuitively, this would mean that Jin cannot cancel into a dash but is able to cancel into a crouch dash from this stance. However, quite a few of his moves transition into his Zenshin stance by holding forward, allowing a sort of shortcut to his Mental Alertness (2) moves. This increases the fluidity and speed of his moves and allows for quite a variable mix-up. Also, Jin has an item called "evil eyes" which causes his eyes to glow red-orange. His item move associated with this item allows his Shun Ren Dan to become a flurry of rapid punches. It only works when the opponent's health is low enough for Shun Ren Dan to K.O. the opponent.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Jin's Arcade Ending
Ending Description: After defeating Unknown, she falls into Jin's arms. As Jin watches her, she transforms back into her human form, Jun. Jin, in shock in seeing his lost mother, watches her with love. Strangely, Jun disappears, leaving Jin alone in the darkness of Fallen Garden. He remains on the ground, having thoughts of his beloved mother and in sadness and rage, he transforms into Devil Jin and flies away. Jin's ending continues from Devil Jin's ending.
Tekken 3D: Prime Edition
Jin is a playable character in Tekken 3D: Prime Edition. His Quick Battle Stage 8 opponent is Ling Xiaoyu, Stage 9 opponent is Kazuya Mishima, and Stage 10 is Heihachi Mishima.
Tekken Revolution
Jin appears as a playable character in Tekken Revolution. His critical arts are Thrusting Uppercut, Demon's Paw, Right Roundhouse Punch and Low Lunging Roundhouse Kick(L.L.R.K). His special art is Corpse Thrust.
Project X Zone
Jin is a playable character in the tactical role-playing game Project X Zone, with Ling Xiaoyu as his partner.
In the sequel Project X Zone 2, Jin returns as a playable character as his partner Xiaoyu from the previous game is replaced by his father, Kazuya Mishima. Although, his previous partner, Xiaoyu has now been partnered with Street Fighter's Chun-Li in the same game.
Tekken: the dark history of mishima
Jin Kazama appears as a main character in the novel written by Takashi Yano. The central plot revolves around him. Set between Tekken 6 and Tekken 7.
Tekken Card Tournament
Jin appears as a playable character in Tekken Card Tournament. His cards focus on an all-around albeit slightly weak assortment. However, some cards allow him to "mutate" into Devil Jin, buffing his effects tremendously. He has average draw, strength, and abilities, making him pretty well rounded, but most of his cards are either limited, or unique, and he has a small card collection. He also has some card abilities from Heihachi, and Kazuya, which further make him a tough opponent to bring down.
When he mutates to Devil Jin, he stays in that form until the card activation causes another mutation. He has cards that can help make mutation easier to do, but these usually have drawbacks on them in order to prevent rapid mutation on a whim. He can also heal himself, but only if he strikes the opponent. He requires skill to use, so beginners aren't recommended to use him until after a bit of training.
Gameplay
In Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament, Jin was basically an updated version of Kazuya, with a couple of moves taken from Jun. Since Tekken 4, his move-set changed drastically.
His gameplay is more complicated than the Mishima's. Jin doesn't have their powerful single moves, so he'll have to use different tools. What lacks in sheer damage, he makes up in a better poking game, evasive manoeuvers, sneaky stance transitions, and an outstanding counter ability. His pokes are quick and hard to read, and none are very punishable on block, so he can apply constant pressure on the opponent. Also, his Mental Alertness stance gives him a good evasive option: when timed in the right way, this stance can evade most moves and give Jin the opportunity to punish the opponent.
Jin has a unique parry that allows him to "circumnavigate" some game mechanics. Is very useful, but hard to apply. Jin's parry works by literally pushing the opponent's move away, thus giving them a recovery where they can't block (based on how slow the move recovers) and allowing Jin to counterattack them after parrying while they're still recovering from the move, acting as if he isn't parrying at all. This is the only way to punish properly some moves that normally are safe on block or only slightly punishable. Jin can also parry an entire combo string, but he must perform the command for every hit before he can punish the final attack.
In Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, if paired with a Mishima (including his demonic self) Jin can enter an Omen stance, which allows him to use some Mishima style moves until performing an attack or being hit, such as the Stonehead, the Dragon Uppercut, the Wind God Fist, the Electric Wind Godfist and so forth. When the Electric Wind Godfist is performed, Jin will remain in omen stance, thus is possible to perform it in succession. When in Omen, Jin's stance is identical to Heihachi's.
Fighting Style
In Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament, Jin fought using Mishima Style Fighting Karate, learned from Heihachi, and Kazama Style Traditional Martial Arts learned from his mother. Jin later discarded this fighting style in favor of traditional Karate, mostly derived from Kyokushin.

Character Relationships
- Jun Kazama - His beloved mother. Jun was the person who mattered to him and had a very good relationship with his mother. Jun even trained his son in the traditional Kazama style and one day Jun tells him that his father is Kazuya. And when Jin was 15, Jun senses Ogre and tells Jin that if something happens to her, he must go find his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima. Jin was so attached to his mother that when Jun disappeared without a trace, Jin could not bear it and began to train to avenge his mother.
- Kazuya Mishima - His father. Kazuya is constantly searching for Jin in order to forcefully extract Jin's portion of the Devil Gene. In Tekken 7, Kazuya seems to no longer want his Devil Gene, but Jin still wants to kill his father after Jin was finally awakened from his coma. He later becomes his uneasy partner in Project X Zone 2.
- Heihachi Mishima - His now deceased grandfather. Heihachi trained and raised him in the events between Tekken 2 and Tekken 3, but later betrayed Jin after the third tournament. Since Heihachi's betrayal, they both became enemies.
- Kazumi Mishima - His deceased grandmother. The original Devil Gene. It is unknown, however, whether he knows her or not.
- Jinpachi Mishima - His deceased great-grandfather. The two met in Tekken 5, and Jin defeated and freed him from the ghost that took over his body.
- Lee Chaolan - His adoptive uncle. Was protected by him during his coma in Tekken 7.
- Lars Alexandersson - His half-uncle and subordinate. Lars rebels against Jin for answers as to why Jin started a war. Jin soon tells him the truth at the end of Tekken 6. Lars later rescues and protects Jin to prepare him for a confrontation with Kazuya in Tekken 7.
- Devil Jin - The malicious physiological transformation Jin undergoes that manifests itself as a result of the Devil Gene.
- Ling Xiaoyu - Jin and Xiaoyu used to be close friends during his time in Mishima Polytechnic. Although after the events of Tekken 3 they got distant, Xiaoyu never stopped missing him and in every her appearance (Tekken series, non-canon games and in Tekken: Blood Vengeance), she tries to help him (and his family). Although Jin did send an anonymous message to Xiaoyu warning her of Heihachi's true nature, showing that he does care for her. The two have been shown to work well together as fighting partners and are promoted as such in both Street Fighter X Tekken and Project X Zone. She is also the only character Jin is hinted to be ever close to (besides his mother).
- Asuka Kazama - His relative.
- Hwoarang - Jin's rival, whom he shows varying degrees of respect to. The two often compete, and Hwoarang's main goal is to defeat Jin, which he finally achieves, but later gets defeated by Jin's devil form. The two are also shown racing in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in Hwoarang's ending. Hwoarang was also Jin's opponent in Tekken 7 while fighting him in his devil form.
- Nina Williams - His hired right-hand, bodyguard, good friend and personal assassin. She might have been aware of Jin's true intentions for the world and she took her duties and the mission deathly seriously. Was sent by Heihachi to capture him, but failed in Tekken 7.
- Eddy Gordo - His lead soldier in charge of the Tekken Force. Along with Nina Williams, Jin hired Eddy in the wake of his rise to the head of the Zaibatsu, vowing to help save the life of Eddy and Christie's master in exchange for Eddy's expertise. They, however, failed to save Eddy and Christie's master, as the Zaibatsu's tech is also far from curing his disease as the normal cure Eddy and Christie had been searching for.
- Miguel Caballero Rojo - Miguel holds a great contempt for Jin as he indirectly ordered the death of Miguel's Sister in an air-raid during Tekken 6. Miguel encounters Jin during the events of Tekken 7 and manages to defeat him. However, he spares his life after noticing Jin's lifeless matter, wishing to exact his revenge once Jin's life is filled with hope.
- Christie Monteiro - Christie knows Jin had Eddy lead the Tekken Force to save her grandfather. Both he and Eddy eventually failed to save her grandfather's life.
- Legendary Capoeira Master - Eddy entrusts Jin to look over him. The Zaibatsu's tech failed to cure the Master's disease, meaning Jin and Eddy failed to save his life.
- Alisa Bosconovitch - Alisa was created to protect Jin no matter what. Jin is also able to control Alisa's actions through voice control (such as shutting her off). Was protected by her during his coma in Tekken 7.
- Azazel - Awakened him through world domination, both in order to apprehend and destroy it thus saving the future from its carnage and in an attempt to rid the world of the Devil Gene. Jin used his Devil Powers to defeat Azazel but failed to destroy the Devil Gene since he still had the mark on his arm in the after credits. The threat of Azazel, however, was entirely destroyed.
- Ancient Ogre - Jin swore revenge on Ogre for 'killing' his mother, an oath he followed through on with extreme prejudice.
- Kuma - His grandfather's pet, whom he banished into the Hokkaidō wilderness.
- Zafina - She warned Jin of Azazel's awakening, although he was already aware of this.
- Raven - He retrieves Jin at the conclusion of the Scenario Campaign.
- Anna Williams - Because she works for Kazuya and Nina works for Jin, Anna is immediately seen as an enemy of Jin.
- Bruce Irvin - Kazuya ordered Bruce to arrest Jin in Tekken 6, making him his enemy.

- Jin's name originates from common Japanese names.
- Jin (仁) is of Japanese origin, meaning "benevolence". The kanji for Jin can also be read as Hitoshi (ひとし), which is a common Japanese male given name.
- Kazama (風間) is comprised of Wind (風 kaze) and Interval (間 ma) and collectively the meaning is "while the wind is blowing". Kazama is also a common Japanese surname.
- Being Kazuya's son, technically Jin would be named "Jin Mishima". However, because he was solely raised by his mother Jun and the conflicting hatred for his Mishima blood, he kept his mother's surname instead. [2]
- During Jin's creation, the staff really emphasized that they wanted a "misfortunate character" for the future, which was what happened to Jin in Tekken 6. [3]
- Before the release of Tekken 3, Jin was designed to be a character with "determination". At release, he became more of a character with a rather "dark side". [4]

- In Tekken: Blood Vengeance, Jin's English voice actor, Patrick Seitz (credited as Darren Daniels) is also the voice actor of Bob in Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Ironically, Jin's stance in the Tekken 5 CG is somewhat similar to that of Bob's Tekken 6 CG.
- In Street Fighter X Tekken, he and his father Kazuya's karate belts are up to the knee. But in their normal game counterpart, their belts are below the knee.

- During Scenario Campaign mode before he drives his motorcycle with his bodyguard Nina, going back to the Zaibatsu, he was seen without his trenchcoat and the color of his button shirt is white instead of gray. In the fifth trailer of Street Fighter X Tekken, he also wears this outfit while fighting against M. Bison, but without the black lightning designs.
- When the player chooses to play as Baek in his boss stage, Jin recognizes him for founding the resistance, and Baek wants to stop Jin from his madness. However, when the player chooses to play as Jin in Baek's boss stage, it has a different outcome where Baek was impressed to see Jin came to fight the resistance by himself as Jin thanked him for his compliments before taking him down in one fell swoop, much to Baek's fury.
- Interestingly, when Jin fights his rival Hwoarang at his boss stage, Jin recognizes Hwoarang as the resistance leader who asks him where his Master Baek is. Jin arrogantly smirks at his rival saying. "I wonder." making Hwoarang get mad for his arrogance. This implies that Jin defeats Baek at his boss stage.
- He is the second boss in the Mishima Zaibatsu, Central Tower and being the final boss in Scenario Campaign mode at Azazel's Temple, Central Corridor.
- When you play as Jin against the final boss in Scenario Campaign, he was seen fighting against his mirror self without the ability as a final boss as his mirror-self has one. This also happens as an arcade mid-boss where he does not have the ability to start off in Rage Mode when he fights his mirror self but his mirror-self has this ability while fighting in his primary outfit.

His "Over the Shoulder Reverse" and "Tidal Wave" throws became fast to execute rather slow his "Right Roundhouse Punch" however becomes a strong version of his "Demon's Paw" rather his uppercut and his "Spinning Flare Kick and L.L.R.K to Spinning Flare Kick" is based on his appearance in "Devil Within" as he stands up after execution rather than lying down.
- His default stance is his Tekken 5 CG pose. But after executing most of his moves he changes back to his original fighting stance from his normal game counterpart before switching.
- Jin's "Penetrating Fist" appears to be very tricky against his opponents as seen when his opponents are getting close or behind from his projectile and gets hit by it. This makes it as his strategic move against them.
- He also shares the same quote as his rival Hwoarang during their first attack and misses one of their throws and the quotes are "Just getting stand there." and "What?!". In Hwoarang's case, his quote from his first attack is "Just getting stand still."
- Jin's Super Art is the "Devil's Beam", named after his father's super art where he was seen knocking his opponent with one left straight punch, but shooting different shades of red projectiles in four hits as he jumps and briefly transforms into Devil Jin and intensively rakes his opponent with a red beam in mid-air before landing on the ground while reverting back to his normal state. His Cross Art, however, is his unblockable move "Avenger" where he pummels his opponent first with a Thrusting Uppercut and several punches in reversal and passes to his/her partner by knocking his opponent with a powerful straight punch.
- His Cross Art is now his Rage Art in Tekken 7 where he was shown to stun his opponent by knocking them to his/her face with a high straight punch and unleashes several punches similar to the Median Line Destruction to his/her opponent and knocking his/her opponent with a devastating straight thrust.
- His Rage Art is a reference to the movie Tekken: Blood Vengeance where he pummels his grandfather before knocking him down to the edge below.

- With Nina, the two would walk past each other while notably, but silently communicating on their teamwork, while another is where Nina seemingly trying to get his attention, but he just looks at her for few seconds and walks away while Nina stares at him.
- With Jun, both win-poses looks very similar to Kazuya and Jun's special win poses, only with the difference of Jin and Jun looking towards each other with loving mother-son smiles.
- With Devil Jin, Jin would transform into his Devil form and fly away and vice versa where Devil Jin would descend to the ground and transform back into Jin.
- With Asuka, she would try to be friendly with Jin by giving him a "good teamwork" handshake, but he, instead, walks past her with Asuka giving him a frustrated (and notably disappointed) stare. Another is where Asuka would point at Jin accusingly, but he just walks past her while she irritably stares at him.
- With Zafina, the two would walk past each other, but Zafina stops and notices Jin with a somewhat surprised look. Similarly, Zafina suddenly notices Jin but would have a more frustrated look.
- With Lars, the two would just cross their arms and stare each other, similar to Kazuya and Heihachi, but more neutral.
- With Xiaoyu, one win pose is similar to Lars and Alisa; only with the difference of Xiaoyu tripping and falling and Jin would not help her up but just stare at her. Another is where Xiaoyu runs towards Jin and happily grabs and shakes his hands while jumping up and down with Jin just staring at her. Another one is where Xiaoyu approaches Jin clapping happily and jumping but Jin walks away without paying any attention.
- With Miguel, he would point at Jin and give him a threatening and vengeful impression with Jin bluntly staring at Miguel.
- He also has special tag throws with the characters mentioned above.
- On the Wii U version, he gets an outfit based on Link from Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series.
- In his ending, the devil tattoo on Jin's left arm is missing when he held Unknown who reverts back to his mother, Jun before disappearing.
- In the E3 2013 debut trailer for Tekken Revolution, Jin is quoted as saying "Power is everything. Overwhelming and Absolute." (力だけを求めいていた、圧倒的な力を。Chikara dake wo motometeita, attō-teki na chikara wo) and "Power is everything." (そう…力こそ全てだ sō... chikara koso subete da). These lines were taken from the Scenario Campaign prologue in Tekken 6.
- Jin was added to the roster along with Ling Xiaoyu in an update on July 2, 2013, as part of the 1,000,000 download event.
- Jin's extra costumes include his Emperor armor from Tekken 6 as well as a casual suit.
- Jin's team partner is Xiaoyu.
- Jin and Xiaoyu appear in the game prologue 2.

- When he and Xiaoyu fight Batsu Ichimonji in his stage, he asks him about his school uniform. Batsu impulsively replies that he was just like from the moral's school committee which he refers to him as his classmate Kyosuke Kagami which is also from the moral's committee.
- Interestingly, both Jin and Kyosuke are voiced by the same voice actor, Isshin Chiba, which Batsu recognizes the same sounds and words between the two as he makes a shout-out towards him due to his seiyu's similar references.
- He appears to be known by most other characters.
- When Akira and Pai help Jin and Xiaoyu to beat the demons, Xiaoyu tells Jin to say "thank you" to Akira, but Jin says "I owe you, Akira" instead. Pai and Xiaoyu lightly joke about how grateful it sounds, but Jin says "I will repay to you" again, avoiding the words "thank you".
- At one point, when Xiaoyu asks him if he is alright, he, unlike usual, tells her not to worry and he is alright (while usually he is rude and tells her he doesn't need her concern).
- In one of his win quotes, he lightly praises Xiaoyu's fight.
- When he and Xiaoyu fight Alisa in her stage, she does not recognize him as her master, as she was reprogrammed by someone else. However, after she gets reprogrammed back, she instantly recognizes Jin. He then asks her to join the team and help them out.
- To one of the Xiaoyu's win quotes (where she mentions the word Excellent), Jin tells her not to use this word and Heihachi says that it brings back bad memories (referring to Lee Chaolan).
- He also became one of Seth's main targets which results in him being reluctantly joined up with his old friend, Ryu and their new friend, Akira against him.
- When Jin interacts other characters in the game, he is shown to have his eyes are closed while speaking to others even with his grandfather Heihachi during the fight. But when fighting a boss, with Xiaoyu or other fighters like Akira or Batsu, he has his eyes open.
- Jin returns as a playable character in Project X Zone 2 during the announcement trailer where he is partnered with his father, Kazuya, instead of Xiaoyu from the first game, and Xiaoyu has been partnered with Chun-Li from Street Fighter.
- Despite his hatred towards his father, who later became his partner, Jin is still aware of his father's evil intentions as the latter previously plans to torture him to become like him. As stated above, both of their relationship as father and son become good for some reasons.
- When Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi, and Xiaoyu meet Unknown, Jin's genes start to react, but he doesn't understand why.
- When he learns that Unknown is his mother, he defeats her and makes sure she never returns.
- His hopes for a cure from Devil Gene didn't come true again, but as always he says that he won't lose hope.
- He's one of the first characters to be added in time release arcade updates.
- It is soon revealed unexpectedly prior playable in time release that Jin already appear as a non-playable sub-boss replacing Heihachi under some conditions to fight him.
- In his CG appearance in Tekken 7 and as a hidden sub-boss, Jin's bangs are longer while wearing the hood from his hoodie jacket is similar to his alternate CG appearance in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 as his CG pose is similar to his Tekken 4 CG pose while wearing his hoodie jacket outfit.
- In his in-game appearance in Tekken 7 after his hood is knocked off by his opponent like he did in both Tekken 4 and Tekken 5 in his hoodie jacket outfit, the spikes of Jin's hair is long underneath his hood.
- During the gameplay footage, Jin gains new moves to his arsenal along with his current moves in both Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 while one of his moves in Tekken 5 is retained.
- His Rage Art is taken from a Tekken Tag Tournament 2 item move.
- Even though he is not playable in the Story Mode of the game, he actually does have a Character Episode, and that is from his devil form.
- In one of his win animations which he maintains from Tekken 6, Jin is shown in a close-up while doing Mental Alertness as he says "I'll get you..." This sentence also comes from his previous Tekken 5 win animation which he says the same words with different win animation.
- In Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, Jin regains his CEO outfit in Tekken 6 and Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion as part of his customization as his button shirt is now white instead of gray and his overall appearance is based on both Hwoarang and his devil form's ending in Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
- One of his customized items has his red lightning changed to blue as it resembles the blue lightning he previously had in Tekken 3 but it was lighter similar to his grandfather, Heihachi's lightning in Tekken 6 up to Tekken 7 and its updates.
- In Ultimate Tekken Bowl, Jin's hood is not seen being knocked off during overcharged in contrast in actual battles where his hood can be knocked off by his/her opponent.
- The color of his bowling ball is red with his devil tattoo imprinted on it.
- He and his father, Kazuya can be customized to resemble Ryu from the Street Fighter series as the karate gi is dark blue but short sleeved. Both also can wear his signature red headband.
- Jin can also be customized both of Ryu's premium costumes such as his Gang Leader school uniform and his second alternate costume in Street Fighter V. The only difference when he was customized his second alternate costume, his karate pants are no longer tattered and never wears gloves or hand-wraps. His facial beard appears in a rough style in contrast to the latter's own facial beard.
- When Jin wears this customization during one of his win animations, it becomes more apparent to resemble Ryu due to his full fringes on his head.
- He plays the supportive role in Story Mode where he was rescued by Lars in the Middle East, recovering from his comatose state in the Violet Systems, and moved into another branch of the same company. Vowing to kill his father, Kazuya at the end of Story Mode after his recovery.
- In this mode, Jin is depicted wearing his devil form's new main outfit while recovering from his coma but in a few cutscenes where Lars shows it to both Lee and Alisa at the medical facility of Violet Systems and being infiltrated by Nina and the Tekken Force, he is briefly shown without the top of his outfit.
- In both Hwoarang's and his devil form's endings, he wears this outfit.
- He appears in Miguel's ending being beaten up by Miguel himself who later spares him from his finishing blow.
- Interestingly, Jin survives from Miguel's powerful assault, when he hits him with a brass knuckles, as the weapon itself in real life can give the opponent a concussion with one knockout blow or even death.
- Jin would actually survive from the assault considering how he has the Devil Gene.
