Lei has medium length black hair which is tied in low ponytail and brown eyes. His appearance is based on the real martial artist and cultural icon, Jackie Chan. Lei's primary outfit consists of both his Kung-Fu attire and his police gear. From Tekken 3 and onwards, his hair becomes longer and has long fringes in each side of his hair.
Tekken 2
Lei in his primary outfit in Tekken 2
Lei debuts in the second installment of the game and wears two of his default outfits. His hair however is medium length.
Player 1 outfit:
Lei wears a blue long sleeved manchurian style Chinese qipao with white folded sleeves and a long black belt which is tucked into his qipao, black Chinese pants, and black Chinese shoes and white socks. This is his martial arts outfit. His hair is shown to be tied in a low ponytail.

Lei's secondary outfit in Tekken 2.
In Tekken: The Motion Picture, he wears this outfit but with white linings on the button side of his qipao as his long hair was dark blue instead of black.
Player 2 outfit:
Lei is now seen wearing a white long sleeved button shirt with an extended collar with black suspenders in each sides, beige colored pants and black shoes. His medium length hair has been cut into short hair. In his in-game appearance, his handgun was hanging loose at the center of his primary outfit. This is his police outfit.
In the console opening and his ending, he wears yellow goggles to protect his eyes and white and blue earphones to protect his ears while practicing shooting guns during target practice.
Tekken 3
Lei's hair becomes longer with long fringes in each side of his head and two of his default outfits has been updated with a few changes.
Lei's primary outfit in Tekken 3.
Player 1 outfit:
His qipao jacket is now green with black rounded designs and white outlines. A black belt which is tucked into his qipao. The front of his qipao was lengthen below the knee and long at the back. The interior of his qipao is white with a golden dragon design underneath, magenta Chinese pants with golden round designs and black shoes with gold soles and white socks. This outfit is also seen from his ending while practicing his 5 form styles of Kung-Fu.
Lei's secondary outfit in Tekken 3.
In his in-game appearance, his green qipao does not have the black designs and the length of his qipao has cut into short length and is now below his thighs, his black belt becomes thicker, and his Chinese pants are now red instead of magenta and the golden designs are now white instead of gold.
Player 2 outfit:
He wears an updated version of his Player 2 outfit in Tekken 2. The button shirt that he wears is replaced with a white short sleeve v-neck shirt with two black buttons, his black suspenders is replaced with a shoulder holster. His pants are now dark brown and his shoes are now brown. He also gains a blue fingerless gloves, a police badge and handcuffs in each side of his pants.
This outfit is also seen in the console opening of the game.
Tekken Tag Tournament
Lei's third outfit in Tekken Tag Tournament.

Player 3 outfit:
His qipao is now purple and was longer before the knee like his primary outfit. His pants are now green and the belt was now red. He also maintains the golden designs from his Chinese pants.
Player 4 outfit:
His v-neck shirt is now dark blue, his pants are dark red and his shoes are black but maintains the black shoulder holster.
Tekken 4
Lei's outfits have a drastic change from his previous outfits.
Lei's primary outfit in Tekken 4.
Player 1 outfit:
Instead of wearing a qipao, Lei now wears a light blue openly loose button Cheongsam with a black Chinese rounded sign of a white crane at the back of his loose shirt and has white outlines within the buttons of his loose shirt which it also reveals his chest, black Chinese pants and gray Chinese shoes with white socks.
Lei's secondary outfit in Tekken 4.
Player 2 outfit:
Lei now wears a brown leather jacket with a dark green short sleeved undershirt, blue jeans and dark brown leather shoes. This outfit is different than his previous Player 2 outfits and has yet to return in later games.
He also wears this outfit during the interconnected endings between Nina, Steve and himself.
- During his prologue while recovering from his injuries and before he enters the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4, Lei is seen wearing only a pair of boxers.
Tekken 5/Dark Resurrection
Lei as he appears in Tekken 5.
Player 1 outfit:
Lei now wears a mixture between both his Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 primary outfits and the design of his qipao is based on his primary outfit in Tekken 3 and the color scheme of his outfit was in his Tekken 2 primary outfit.
He now wears a royal blue long sleeve Chinese qipao jacket with diamond designs on front, a dragon design at the back of his jacket and the back of his qipao was longer up to the knee, the interior of his qipao has golden designs and has a red belt tucked into his qipao instead of a black belt. dark brown pants with black round designs and a red ribbon tied in each sleeves of his pants and black Chinese shoes with white socks. In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, the color scheme of his primary outfit in Tekken 5 is mainly based on his main outfit in Tekken 3 which is recolored into green and red.
Lei's secondary outfit in Tekken 5.
Player 2 outfit:
He wears an updated version of his primary outfit in Tekken 2, his button shirt is now pink and gains police emblems in each side of his button shirt, his suspenders are now brown, his pants are now white instead of dark brown and his belt are now brown, and wears white leather shoes. He regains his blue fingerless gloves from his Player 2 outfit in Tekken 3. In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, the color scheme of his outfit is mainly based on his Tekken 3 Player 2 outfit. The color of his button shirt becomes white, his pants are now dark brown and his suspenders are now black, his fingerless gloves are now green instead of blue but maintains his white leather shoes from its original outfit.
Tekken 6/Bloodline Rebellion
Lei regains both of his Player 1 and 2 outfit in Tekken 5 and was remain unchanged whatsoever.
Street Fighter X Tekken
Player 1 outfit:
Lei's swap costume in Street Fighter X Tekken.

Swap Costume:
Lei's Swap Costume is based on Dan Hibiki, as he wears a pink karate gi which is ripped into short sleeves with a black undershirt and a matching pink karate pants with shreds at the edge of the sleeves of his pants. He has a black Chinese sash at the left side of his gi as opposed to a karate belt, and maintains his black Chinese shoes and white socks from his primary outfit. He also gains black gauntlets and a red tengu mask which it was shown at the right side of his head.
Alternate Costume:
Lei's alternate costume is based on one of his customizations in Tekken 6, which he wears a black armor vest with a different shades of blue futuristic combat armor suit with neon green designs and a matching blue and neon green shoes. He also wears a gray futuristic combat gloves and a radio microphone on his head.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
