Tekken X Street Fighter (鉄拳 X ストリートファイター Tekken kurosu Sutorīto Faitā?, lit. Iron Fist Cross Street Fighter) was a crossover fighting game to be developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment that is currently stalled.[1] The gameplay of Tekken X Street Fighter was to feature the same 3D fighting game engine of the Tekken franchise, as opposed to Street Fighter X Tekken which featured the 2D styled gameplay and ink-styled art of Street Fighter IV

Announced on July 24, 2010, at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con along with Street Fighter X Tekken.

In 2021, the latest Harada's Bar episode revealed that the project has been temporarily shelved but that Harada hopes to return to the project when the time is right for both companies. The project was at about 30% completion when it was shelved.[2]

Development

No images or videos were released at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, and, by May 2011, Katsuhiro Harada has stated that his staff "hasn't started" on Tekken X Street Fighter. Due to the releases of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in 2011, Tekken 7 in 2015, and Street Fighter V in 2016, neither Namco nor Capcom could provide an appropriate window for the game's preview.

This was intended to be the first pair of fighting game crossovers between Namco and Capcom as the previous crossover game, Namco x Capcom was purely a role-playing game.

Katsuhiro Harada did reveal some concepts at GamesCom 2010 such as a prototype model of Ryu, with the gi of Tekken′s Paul Phoenix. He said the team has yet to finish the model as details and lighting were not completed. Harada also said at Gamescom that he has no plans to release Tekken X Street Fighter until after the Capcom project has launched.

Trivia

  • The shelving of the game was officially announced in 2016.[3]
  • After some confusion, the game was confirmed to be shelved but not cancelled on an episode of Harada's Bar, the web-broadcast show where Katsuhiro Harada speaks to guests at his bar, aired on YouTube on June 19 2021.[4]
    • In the episode he stated that about 30% of the production was completed before the project was put on hold.[5]
    • Due to an error in the English translation of the episode, English-speaking fans initially believed the game to be cancelled, and news stories were run with this headline.[6] Harada later clarified that it was a subtitling issue and explained that the project has not been permanently cancelled.[7]
  • The game was referenced during EVO 2023, where Ono, who had now parted ways with Capcom, made a surprise appearance on stage with Harada, claiming that they had left some "homework" behind. Before he could complete saying "Tekken X Street Fighter", he would quickly be chased away by Harada.[8]
