Hello there, I am a big fan of the Tekken series, and I'm trying to compile a roster of sorts for a small, fan-made project. In doing this, I have run into a bit of a roadblock regarding some of the "clone" characters.
For example, in Tekken 2, while there were 23 roster spots, only 12 of those has their own original movesets: Kazuya (Mishima-style Karate), Paul (Hybrid of Full-Contact Karate and Judo), Marshall (Jeet Kune Do), Michelle (Xing Yi Quan), Nina (Aikido and Koppo), King (Pro Wrestling), Yoshimitsu (Manji-style Ninjitsu), Jack (Brute Force), Jun (Kazama-style Traditional Martial Arts), Lei (Five Animals Form Kung Fu), Baek (Tae Kwon Do) and Bruce (Muay Thai).
Of course, there was the "clone" characters of Anna to Nina, Lee to Marshall, Wang to Michelle, etc, who, minus a few different moves, played almost indentical. Nowadays in Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, such characters are different. Anna' is more aggresive and throw-based, Lee's style is more flashy and kick-based, Wang has a more orthodox form of Xing Yi Quan, so on and so forth.
Now, here is where the problems start: Tekken 3. Some characters like Forest and Julia directly replaced Marshall and Julia, Jin was a hybrid of Kazuya and Jun, and some were not direct clones, but still replaced the originators in Bryan and Hwoarang. Nowadays, Bruce and Bryan play very differently, but Hwoarang and Baek now play more similar.
Basically, I'm going to list the clones. Heihachi and Kazuya get a exempt from this, as how important they are in the story.
- Anna and Nina
- Armor King and King
- Prototype Jack, Ganryu, Kuma and Jack
- Kunimitsu and Yoshimitsu
- Wang and Michelle/Julia
- Lee and Marshall
- Christie and Eddie
- Hwoarang and Baek
- Bryan and Bruce
- Asuka and Jun
So, tell me fine people of the wikias, which of these sets of characters are different enough and which are almost identical? For example, I know Eddie and Christie are almost indentical, and probably sitll should have been one roster spot. While Bryan, as of Tekken 6/Tekken Tag Tournament 2 plays quite different then Bruce does now.
Thank you in advance for your feedback and helping me with this problem.
